Oak Ridge Mall set to become world’s largest climate controlled storage facility

Posted on December 30, 2011 by Brehd Patchley

Oak Ridge officials claim the closure of Sears in the Oak Ridge Mall is just the silver lining in a cloud they’ve been looking for. “Our long-term plan for the space has been to create the world’s largest climate controlled storage facility,” explains Mark Watson, Oak Ridge City Manager. “We have an aging population, and as they die, relatives are going to need a place to store stuff. Our goal is to draw national attention by turning the Oak Ridge Mall into a high-end climate controlled storage facility. As our aging population dies off, we can simply contract our police department to pick up items from the abandoned homes and store it for family members that have moved to other cities.”
