Beach to be created in Knoxville to spur tourism

Posted on June 4, 2003 by Bjorn Knoxley
Can Beach in Arkansas is a popular
man-made beach similar to the one slated
for Knoxville.

As summer months near, families start to plan vacations. In a bid to keep more summer spending within Knoxville, the 70-acre lot currently being used as the Regional Farmers’ Market near Knoxville Center Mall is slated for conversion to a beach. Admittedly, planners were originally stymied as to how they would route ocean waters into the region. Creative thinking has led to a breakthrough and a marketing/services trade has been arranged with Morton Salt and KUB to create an artificial ocean.
