For years, at the start of summer, Knoxvillians have looked forward to the Bush Beans Bean Dip. Held on the water front in downtown Knoxville, Bush Beans prepares a giant vat of baked beans complete with diving board. Fans of baked beans can dive into the vat and swim in their favorite summer side dish. The event started 15 years ago as a way to promote baked beans as the side dish of choice for summertime cookouts, family reunions, and other outdoor events. Cole slaw, the second favorite side dish, is usually provided at the event as well, in addition to the main course, grilled burgers and hot dogs. This year’s event will be held Saturday, June 7, in the Star of Knoxville parking lot beginning at 9 am.
