City services take cue from Smokies Baseball

Posted on August 14, 2003 by Bjorn Knoxley

The City of Knoxville believes it has learned a lesson from the overwhelming success of Smokies Baseball. The small team couldn’t seem to find a niche within the confines of Knoxville but has been consistently breaking records since leaving the confines of the city.

Using the Smokies as a template, many of the standard services provided by city government are soon to be available only in the surrounding counties. It is firmly believed that if city residents are forced to travel further for services, they will appreciate them more…often relishing the experience.

Services to be tested at first will include city court activities, police services, parks and recreation offerings, and utilities. If the first phase of the program works as expected all city services will soon be offered only outside of Knoxville proper.
