| Herbie, apparently ashamed of his NASCAR conversion, has vanished.

Sometime late last week, Herbie the Lovebug, the famous Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of its own, unexpectedly went missing from its California garage. Sources close to the car say that it felt shame for its most recent movie, starring Lindsay Lohan, and that any association with NASCAR was, by the car, considered to be the lower than banishment to a junk yard. And recent speculation that Herbie was to be made over on the television show Pimp My Ride apparently had the car even more depressed. According to the same sources, the car’s dream was to retire to a museum in Gatlinburg, where he could be loved and admired for the rest of his days, by happy tourists. An Amber Alert may be issued later today for Number 53.
