Knox County School Board seeks new definition of term ‘physical’

Posted on June 22, 2011 by Brehd Patchley

On the heels of some schools adding fly fishing to physical education programs, the Knox County School Board is hoping to take the movement a step forward by adjusting the definition of ‘physical.’

“The term is simply daunting,” states a representative of the Knox County School Board. “We can’t motive kids towards something that means ‘Involving or characterized by vigorous bodily activity’ on a regular basis, it’s just too hard.”

“Fly fishing is a perfect example of the new realm of physical education,” they added. “The word ‘physical’ really implies something more along the lines of ‘non-sleeping activity,’ and we feel that would be a much better definition.’
