Oak Ridge pet store closed for animal cruelty

Posted on December 11, 2002 by Bjorn Knoxley
(Persian, in the process of being shaved.)

Puddles Pet Shop in Oak Ridge has been forced shut by PETA for cruelty to animals, stray cats in particular. Accusations include capturing stray cats, shaving them, and selling them for $150 each. Although this is a fairly low price for a Sphynx (slender, muscular, cats often referred to as ‘hairless’ cats), it’s an exorbitant amount to pay for stray, bald cats. After about two weeks, the hair begins to grow back in and the animals are usually put out on the street (many have also washed ashore at Bull Run Steam Plant in burlap bags).
