Prescription card ends lottery eligibility

Posted on February 21, 2006 by Bjorn Knoxley

Due to a system glitch, Knox County citizens who sign up for the new prescription drug discount card will be removed from the state lottery eligibility list. This little-known lottery eligibility list was developed by the same software company who wrote the discount card system, and they apparently used the same database to store names for both systems. Several people who thought they had won big this past Saturday were disappointed to learn that they were not eligible. Lottery and County officials are at odds on how to resolve the problem, but people who are not on the lottery eligibility list simply cannot win anything, especially if they are already getting prescription drug discounts, according to lottery officials. The software company, which apparently consists of a single programmer working out of his parents’ basement, could not be reached for comment.
