Sevierville PD using a new kind of officer

Posted on August 19, 2011August 19, 2011 by Ima Jeane Poole

Due to massive budget cuts, the Sevierville Police Department has layed off more than half their staff. Due to the lack of officers, the Sevierville PD has adopted a new program to keep an eye out on those residents under house arrest. They are using bears.

“People are so scared of them, that they stay put. It works better than the monitoring bracelets and the bears are free,” states Sevierville Police Chief, Bear Jones. “This also kills two birds with one stone. We had a bear problem that we were having to spend lots of man hours on and now with the budget cuts, we just don’t have the staff. So we made the bears the staff. Problem solved. Well with the exception of that one mauling, but we’re still working out the kinks.”
