Statue proposed with funds from Lyons View Gardens

Posted on September 10, 2003 by Bjorn Knoxley
Local artist’s vision
of Mayor Victor Ashe.

The recent demise of the Lyons View Gardens Project leaves almost $500,000 in city funds available for other uses. Although many projects are being considered, one project which is gaining popularity is to spend the funds to erect a statute of outgoing Major Victor Ashe in Worlds Fair Park. The statue has already been deigned by a local artist (see photo at left) and shows the mayor at his stately best. Supporters claim it a fitting tribute to a man who has given so much to the city. At press time the Mayor was at home under the Henley Street Bridge and could not be reached for comment.
