KNOXVILLE — Teresa Boggs, 52, a dental hygienist from Fountain City, took up golf in March and has not yet broken 100 on the real Knoxville Municipal Golf Course. On Thursday night she shot a 74 on the other one, the version City Council’s memorandum says the city will explore, which she played at her kitchen table with a marble and a map from the agenda packet.
The memorandum only authorizes the city to look into downsizing the course and redeveloping part of it, so nothing on the map has been built. Boggs treats this as a convenience. The map shows, in her words, “where they’re thinking of putting things,” and leaves the golf to the player, so she drew the fairways in herself with a pencil.
“The apartments are in the way on the back nine, is what I’m saying,” Boggs said. “You come in from the left on 14 and you’re hitting a balcony. I called Parks and Recreation to ask if a balcony is out of bounds or if it’s just a bad lie, and the lady said she’d have to ask somebody. I haven’t heard back. I took a drop in the meantime.”
Her husband, Ron Boggs, 55, who kept the card, said the marble rolled off the table twice and into the dog’s water bowl once. He gave her a penalty stroke for the bowl.
“It’s got water in it,” Ron said.
“I told him that bowl isn’t on the map, and he said so what, and I said so it’s not part of the course,” Boggs said.
The Parks and Recreation office said the course is open and tee times are available.
