A plywood barn room with a gold-tinted window, afternoon light on the concrete floor, a box fan and a cordless drill on a workbench

Maryville man lists Sunsphere window for sale, asks that buyer not bring up the fair

Posted on October 20, 2026 by Bjorn Knoxley

MARYVILLE — A classified ad running this week in Blount County reads, in full:

“FOR SALE: Window. Gold glass, about the size of a patio door, from the Sunsphere (the real one, the 1982 one). In the back room of our barn since 1998. Runs warm in the afternoon, never needed a curtain. Buyer removes. It’s nine screws, I’ll leave the drill. I can’t talk about the fair. Text only. $200 or best offer, no trades.”

The ad was placed by Cody Whitlock, 24, who said the glass is the same panel his family has had in the barn room since before he was born, and that it looks out on the cow lot.

“Everybody who texts wants to talk about the fair,” Whitlock said. “I wasn’t born yet. I can tell you about the window. It goes hot from about three o’clock on and I keep a fan in the corner.”

The room has had a gold cast to it every afternoon, he said, and his girlfriend likes it for photographs.

As of Monday there had been six replies, one from a man in Alcoa who asked whether Whitlock would ship it.
