FARRAGUT — The monthly newsletter of the Brightwater Glen Homeowners Association has carried the same notice about trash containers in its second column since the spring of 1994, and a motion at Monday’s board meeting to look at the wording died without a second.
The notice asks residents to return their containers to the side of the garage by the evening of collection day and thanks them for “helping keep Brightwater Glen the neighborhood we chose.” It still calls the carts “new.” The green ones it was written for were replaced by gray ones in 2009.
Residents said they have no complaint with it. “I read it every month, even though I’ve never had a bin out of place,” said Marlene Pettus, who has lived on Brightwater Court since 1998. “I just look for it, you know, and when it’s there I know I’ve got the right newsletter. The one time the pool key reminder ran above it I had to go back and check the front.”
Board president Alan Gentry looked into who wrote it. The first issue’s masthead lists Carol Ann Teague as the association’s secretary, and Gentry found her through a former neighbor. She lives in Dayton, Ohio, and said she wrote the notice in about ten minutes at a card table.
“Oh, I could fix that if somebody wanted me to,” Teague said. “Does it still have our old phone number in it? We got calls about those wheels at suppertime.”
Gentry said he has not gotten around to asking her.
