Chattanooga paper now smells of Knoxville

Posted on November 5, 2026 by Bjorn Knoxley

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN — Harold Blevins, a retired subscriber, says the Chattanooga Times Free Press now smells like Knoxville. The paper moved its printing to the Knoxville News Sentinel’s press this week, and the copies come south on I-75 by truck. Blevins could tell on the first morning, and he has been reading it on his porch since.

His wife, Linda, still reads her copy at the kitchen table.

“Linda says it’s ink,” Blevins said. “Well, I’ve had ink in the house before. I used to leave the paper right there by my toast.”

He had expected some Knoxville in the sports pages, since there is usually something about the Vols in there anyhow. The classifieds were a surprise.

“I was looking at a used dining room table and I had to put the page down,” he said.

Blevins said Linda keeps asking how long the paper is going to stay outside.

“I’m reading the classifieds through the screen door right now, and I’ll bring it in after breakfast.”
