KNOXVILLE — Ron Pettigrew, 63, has kept a 20-ounce mug on the wall of a Central Avenue brewery since 2015, and he would like it left there after the brewery starts selling a ten-ounce mug to club members this month. Numbers go out in order, so the new mug will be No. 212.
Pettigrew asked at the bar Thursday whether the small one could hang on 14 next to the big one. The manager, Kyle Brannon, said the numbers were stamped on the hooks.
“I’m not trying to hold anybody up. That number makes me look like I just got here, is all. And Dale burned my name in the bottom of the old one with a soldering iron, so I’d just as soon it stayed where it is. I might use the little one sometime. I don’t know.”
Brannon said a lot of the guys on the wall have been asking about the new size. Asked what they had been asking, he said mostly about the hooks.
The Brewery Enumeration Committee, which has certified only that the county has between 24 and 38 breweries, inclusive, said it would score the two mugs as one pending a site visit.
The brewery’s notice about the new mugs went out to members Friday with a coupon for a free half pour, good only in the new mug. Pettigrew has put it in the cup holder of his truck.
